Please measure your dog and then check our size charts here to see if your dog fits any listed size, and if not we will be happy to make one of our designs for you.
Measuring for a training (or slip) collar is different to measuring for a standard collar because the training collar does not open out with an adjustable buckle and also sits with a good few centimetres of space around the neck.
Our Brompton collar is designed to fit comfortably over your dog’s head and to hang beautifully on their neck, only being used for training as and when you are doing so.
To gauge the correct size for your dog you need to measure the widest part of the head (putting two fingers inside the tape, as this is how you put the collar on the dog. We advise taking this measurement and then adding 4cm to it for a comfortable fit.
N.B. Training collars should only be worn when training your dog.
How to measure
All our collars are handmade so sizing may differ slightly between each one, but as a rule, here’s how to measure your dog’s neck for the correct collar.
Use a flexible dressmaker’s tape and measure around the neck, halfway down from the ears to the base of the neck, putting two fingers comfortably between the tape. The recorded measurement will correspond with the centre hole of the correct collar size.
Because our collars are made from English bridle leather, known to last for many years, we make our collars with five holes so that your dog has room to grow or shrink over the course of its lifetime and still enjoy the beauty and comfort of a Bone Idol collar. Or why not share the love and pass your collar down, like an heirloom gift.
How to measure
The English bridle leather belt on The Herdwick is designed to sit more on the hips with the bag placed on one side. You can of course wear it however you like, this is just our preferred way.
To measure yourself for the correct belt size take a soft dressmaker’s tape and measure between your waist and your hips. The measurement will correspond with the middle hole of the belt. Each belt gives a 11cm range from the first to the last hole.
